Shouldn’t Comedians Have the Right to Offend?

The essence of comedy is being critical, says John Cleese, and that means causing offense sometimes. But we shouldn’t protect everyone from experiencing negative emotions by enforcing political correctness, he says. Cleese’s latest book is “So, Anyway…” (http://goo.gl/D2D3cp).

Cleese says he refuses to perform on American college campuses because they have become “politically correct,” meaning that too many students find offense in harmless humor.
